WHO Collaborating Centre for Midwifery Development
The School of Healthcare Sciences at the Cardiff University, College of Biomedical and Life Sciences in Cardiff, United Kingdom has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Midwifery Development.
The School of Healthcare Sciences is committed to the development of impactful knowledge that directly improves health outcomes and health care for patients and families. The activities encompass a broad range of health care sciences including: clinical photography, midwifery, nursing (adult, child and mental health), occupational therapy, physiotherapy, perioperative practice and radiography (diagnostic and therapeutic).
As a WHO collaborating centre, the School of Healthcare Sciences supports WHO through:
- generating the evidence-base relating to midwifery education and practice
- assisting in dissemination evidence and good practice in the field of midwifery education and practice
- providing technical consultancy and expert advice to Member States on midwifery education.
WHO collaborating centres are institutions such as research institutes, parts of universities or academies, which are designated by the Director-General to carry out activities in support of the Organization’s programmes. Currently over 700 WHO collaborating centres in over 80 Member States work with WHO on areas such as nursing, occupational health, communicable diseases, nutrition, mental health, chronic diseases and health technologies.
