This policy brief examines the reality faced by hospitals in having to constantly adapt to changing circumstances within the hospital, in their interaction with the rest of the health care system, and in the wider social and economic environment. It covers the pressures faced by hospitals from the demand- and supply-side as well as the expectations and constraints placed upon it as a consequence of wider changes.
