9th Meeting of the European Union Physical Activity Focal Points Network
Luxembourg, 25-26 October 2018
In the context of the European Union (EU) “Council Recommendation on promoting health-enhancing physical activity [HEPA] across sectors” adopted in 2013, Member States have been requested to appoint EU national physical activity focal points, notably to support the framework to monitor HEPA policies and physical activity. In the “Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle”, launched in September 2017, European commissioners Navracsics, Andriukaitis and Hogan agreed on several actions to promote healthy lifestyles. One of these actions relates to “enhancing dialogue across health and sport networks, for example through joint meetings of the network of National Physical Activity Focal Points and of the High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity, and encouraging other relevant Commission services to take part” (Action 8).
As part of the collaboration to implement the above mentioned actions, the next meeting of the physical activity focal points will be held on 25 October – a joint meeting with the High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity of the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety. The next country physical activity factsheets will be launched in September and the joint meeting will offer an excellent opportunity to inform health stakeholders.
On 26 October, the second part of the focal points meeting will continue without the participation of the High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity. This meeting will provide a platform for continuing collaboration between Member States and enable sharing of experiences and best practices of physical activity promotion in the European Union.
