Fact sheet on the SDGs: Migration and health (2017)
The health and well-being of migrants and refugees is essential to the achievement of the SDGs. Although the health problems of migrants and refugees are similar to those of host populations, statistics, where available, generally indicate that migrants and refugees may be at risk for worse health outcomes and have a higher prevalence of certain diseases. Migrant health can be adversely influenced by several social determinants, such as gender, poor governance, ethnicity and poverty, as well as by economic, environmental and other determinants of health. This fact sheet includes facts and figures, outlines the challenges, charts indicators of progress and shares commitments made by Member States to tackle this issue.
