Video: Countries at the centre: the strategic role of country offices in the WHO European Region
WHO/Europe has country offices in 30 of the 53 countries of the Region. These offices allow ministries of health and other partners to work directly and closely with WHO on a daily basis. In 2017, WHO/Europe invited members of its governing bodies to visit country offices to gain first-hand insight into WHO’s work at the country level and the added value it brings to achieving positive health outcomes. This film chronicles the resulting visits and their outcomes.
Through 4 country visits spread across 2017 and 2018 – to Georgia, the Russian Federation, Slovenia and Turkey – members of WHO governing bodies were given the opportunity to gain a better understanding of WHO’s day-to-day work in countries and also see how the three levels of WHO (country, regional and global) come together to improve health. With this information, these members can make clearer decisions about the work and funding of WHO.
