Maša Vukčević Marković and Safaa Aldin Alobaidi, Serbia
Maša Vukčević Marković was the first – and for a while the only – psychologist providing psychological support to refugees and asylum seekers in Serbia. In this film, and based on her 10 years of practical experience in working with migrants and refugees, Maša talks about what is important in creating sustainable, systemic solutions for better mental health protection and support for migrants and refugees. Safaa Aldin Alobaidi, an engineer from Iraq, was one of Maša’s first patients as he arrived as an asylum seeker in Serbia in 2008. He recounts how receiving psychological support helped him in building a life in a new country.
