Annual session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe
Malta, 10–13 September 2012

About the event

Over 300 representatives of the 53 Member States in the WHO European Region  will meet in Malta on 10–13 September 2012 for the annual session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe. Hosted by the Government of Malta, the Committee will discuss strategies and action plans to tackle public health issues on the national and regional levels.

High-profile participants include WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, health ministers and other high-ranking health decision-makers from the WHO European Region.

The event will be open to accredited journalists.

Time and location

The sixty-second session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe will open on Monday, 10 September 2012, at 9:00, and close on Thursday, 13 September 2012.

The session will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Portomaso, St Julian’s, Malta PTM 01 (Tel.: +356 21 383 383).

Pre-event press conference

A pre-event press conference will be held on Friday, 7 September. Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, will explain the key themes of the session. A representative of the Maltese Ministry for Health, the Elderly and Community Care will also be present.

Press registration

Journalists wishing to attend the session of and media activities during the Regional Committee should complete the registration form and e-mail it to the Regional Office (LNE@euro.who.int).

Travel arrangements

Journalists planning to travel to Malta to cover the Regional Committee session should make their hotel arrangements in advance. The host country’s official tourism web site offers some services and guidance for hotel booking.

Journalists who need visas to enter Malta must submit applications at least four weeks before the start of the Regional Committee session. Further details are available on the Government web site .
