Your World Health Organization – 70 years working towards better health for everyone, everywhere

Seventy years ago, on 7 April 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) was founded on the principle that health is a human right and all people should enjoy the highest standard of health. This aspiration towards better health for everyone, everywhere has guided the Organization’s work ever since.

“Health is our most precious asset. It must not be a luxury enjoyed by the privileged,” says Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe. “We all benefit socially, economically and environmentally from a world that seeks health for all.”

In partnership with countries, WHO has made impressive progress in many areas that promote our health and well-being. This year, on its 70th anniversary, WHO calls on all health partners to recommit to health for all, through concerted action towards universal health coverage (UHC). This goal, fundamental to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, will guide the Organization’s work in the years to come.
