Dr Norman Begg, 1949-1956
Norman Begg was born in 1906 in China to a family of Scottish missionaries and began his career in public health in the 1930s at the North Eastern Fever Hospital in London, United Kingdom.
In the post-war era, he sought to bring countries together in the spirit of mutual cooperation, rebuild health systems and address epidemics.
He was the first WHO Regional Director for Europe.
