Paul JJ van de Calseyde was born in Belgium in 1903 and qualified as a doctor in 1929.
In 1962 the European Region was the first Region in the world to be declared malaria free. This was thanks to intense work in the Region in establishing the aetiology and epidemiology of malaria, as well as the creation of the protocol for its eradication.
