World No Tobacco Day in Bulgaria

Activities for the Day were organized by the Ministry of Health of Bulgaria, nongovernmental organizations, and school and university students, with support from WHO. The Day was commemorated in the centre of Sofia, at a popular public park. Several activities took place:

• free consultations for pregnant women who smoke passively or actively, smokers and nonsmokers;
• measurement of carbon monoxide in exhaled air and blood; and
• measurement of blood pressure.

Health materials were handed out and, at the end of the Day, a concert was held in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. School students (winners of the national school competition for class projects on a life without tobacco) and university medical students also participated.
