Evaluation of patients in opioid substitution therapy in the Kyrgyz Republic

An evaluation of the Opioid Substitution Therapy programme in the Kyrgyz Republic took place during October 2008. As a consequence of the evaluation, a survey of patients in methadone substitution therapy was prepared and conducted in December 2008. The result of this survey is described in this report and was presented at a parliamentarian Round Table on 15 May 2009 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. 

The result clearly shows that the treatment in methadone substitution therapy changes the risk behaviour of the patients, decreases crime and increases the quality of life and self-assessed level of health.
