Poland World Health Day 2011 – Antibiotic resistance: No action today, no cure tomorrow
On 7 April 2011, Poland will celebrate World Health Day by organizing a nationwide conference on Antibiotic resistance at the Ministry of Heath. The conference will bring together politicians, members of parliament, scientists and public health experts as well as representatives of non-governmental organizaitons (NGO) and the media.
The conference is jointly organized by the National Consultant on Antibiotic Resistance along with the WHO Country Office in Poland. It is under the honorary patronage of Dr Ewa Kopacz, Minister of Health.
After the official opening by Dr Adam Fronczak, Undersecretary of State, a series of presentations will be given about the current antibiotic resistance situation in Poland, the actions undertaken to prevent the spread of antibiotic resistance, as the presentation of a survey on patients’ knowledge and perception of this problem.
Special emphasis will be given to the topic of multidrug resistance of tuberculosis (TB) which currently poses a serious public health threat in Europe.
