European mortality database updated

11-02-2013

Deaths from skin cancer in the WHO European Region increased by a third between 1980 and 2011: from 1.58 to 2.09 per 100 000. This is one of the trends to be found by analysing data in WHO/Europe’s mortality indicator database, updated in January.

The database allows in-depth analysis of cause-specific death rates, and provides subnational mortality data for 12 countries. The January update added new or updated cause-of-death data at the national level for 34 country/years, as well as additional data at the subnational level for Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

The database allows age- and sex-specific analysis of mortality trends by broad disease groups, as well as disaggregated to 67 specific causes of death. Data reach back to 1980.
