Chair: Professor Tomris Türmen (Turkey)
Professor Türmen graduated from the University of Ankara Medical School with a degree in medicine and trained as a paediatrician at New York Medical College, followed by sub-specialty training in perinatology and neonatology at McGill University. She subsequently served as Director General of Maternal and Child Health and Deputy Under-Secretary of Health in the Turkish Ministry of Health. Professor Türmen joined the WHO in 1992 and worked as Senior Policy Advisor to the Director General and as Assistant Director General of the Family and Child Health Cluster for a total of 15 years.
She is currently the President of International Children’s Center, an international NGO working in health and human rights, while simultaneously holding the title of Professor of Pediatrics and Newborn Medicine at the University of Ankara. Professor Türmen has extensive experience in international health policy and research, and her work has focused on children’s’ and women’s’ health and reproductive health and rights. In addition, she is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London and Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Professor Türmen joined the EACHR in 2012.
