Professor Josep Maria Antó Boqué (Spain)

Professor Antó received his Degree in Medicine in 1975 and his PhD in 1990 (Epidemiological Investigations of Asthma Epidemics; Extraordinary Award) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has been working at the IMIM (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute) (1988-2005) as Chair of the Respiratory and Environmental Health Research Unit (1996-2005) and Director (2004-2005).He has been Principal Visiting Fellow at the National Heart and Lung Institute (1994, London, UK). He has been Director of the CIBER Epidemiología y Salud Pública (2007-2010). He is currently the Director of Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) and the Scientific Director of Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). Since 1998 he is Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).
 
Professor Antó's research is focused on the epidemiology of asthma and COPD with special interest on the environmental determinants and prevention of these diseases and he has published over 300 papers in leading scientific journals. He is and has been a member of the advisory and editorial boards in several journals including the American Journal of Epidemiology, Thorax, European Journal of Public Health, European Respiratory Journal, Environmental Health (current) and European Journal of Epidemiology (current). Among other awards he has received the Cournand Lecture (European Respiratory Society, 1994), the Manuel Tapia Conference (Sociedad Española de Neumología y Cirurgia Torácica, 1999), the Medals Narcis Monturiol and Josep Trueta (Generalitat de Catalunya, 1995 and 2009), the Lecture Alice Hamilton Ground Rounds (University of San Francisco, 2009), the Congress Chair (European Respiratory Society, 2010) and the Fellow of ERS title (European Respiratory Society, 2014).

Professor Antó joined the EACHR in 2012.
