Professor Antoine Flahault (France)
Professor Antoine Flahault graduated in 1988 with a degree in medicine from Université Paris Descartes followed by a doctorate in medical sciences in 1991 from Université Paris Diderot. Following positions as a public health practitioner at Assistance publique – Hôpitaux de Paris and as Head of the Department of Public Health at Tenon Hospital, he is now Professor of Public Health at Université Paris Descartes and Director of the Institute of Global Health at the Université de Genève. Professor Flahault was on the board of governors at Sorbonne Paris Cité University and was the founding Director of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique (EHESP, School of Public Health) at Rennes.
His work has focused on surveillance of infectious diseases, and, in addition to publishing over 200 scientific papers, has played leading roles in setting up a national disease surveillance system in France (Réseau Sentinelles) and in coordinating a task force against dengue fever and in the French West Indies and Chikungunya virus in the Indian Ocean. While Professor Flahault previously served as President of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER), he was recently appointed President of the newly-founded Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA) in Brussels, and Co-President of the European Academic Global Health Alliance (EAGHA).
Professor Flahault joined the EACHR in 2012.
