Professor Catherine Law (United Kingdom)
Professor Law graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of London in 1979 followed by a doctorate in paediatrics and child health — after which she moved on to postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene. She is currently Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology and Head of the Population, Policy and Practice Programme at the UCL Institute of Child Health, and an honorary consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Her work has focussed on paediatric epidemiology and child public health, particularly the development of cardiovascular risk factors in children, physical growth, and inequalities in child health. She is Co-Director of the Policy Research Unit in the Health of Children, Young People and Families.
In addition to her research role, she is also Chair of the Public Health Interventions Advisory Committee of NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) and Programme Director for the NIHR Public Health Research Programme. Professor Law has an active interest in the use and development of research for public policy, and worked with the UK Government in drafting the Department of Health’s Research and Development Strategy for Public Health.
Professor Law joined the EACHR in 2012.
