Professor Maksut Kulzhanov (Kazakhstan)
Professor Maksut Kulzhanov graduated with a degree in medicine in 1972 followed by a doctorate in medical sciences in 1993. Although he started his career in medical practice he later focussed his attention on health care management research and in 1992 became Deputy Minister of Health in Kazakhstan. After a short spell as Rector of the Kazakhstan School of Public Health, he now holds the position of Director General at the National Centre of Health Development in Kazakhstan.
Professor Kulzhanov’s research interests include health policy and public health education. He is actively engaged in health policy, and played an instrumental role in initiating healthcare reforms in Kazakhstan in his role as Deputy Minister of Health. He has also served on a number of international boards and steering committees including the Council on Health Research for Development, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) and the WHO Executive Board.
Professor Kulzhanov joined the EACHR in 2012.
