Professor Mihajlo Jakovljevic (Serbia)
Mihajlo Jakovljevic graduated with a degree in medicine in 2003 and defended his PhD thesis in clinical pharmacology in 2008. During the 2012/2013 academic year, he served as Visiting Associate Professor of Health Economics at Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan. Since 2016, he has been an affiliate of the Center for Health Trends and Forecasts, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, United States of America. In his home institution, the University of Kragujevac, Serbia, he is the Head of PhD Curriculum on Global Health, Economics and Policy. For his work, he was elected Associate Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences in Belgrade, being the youngest member ever elected in the history of the Academy.
In the capacity of principal investigator or visiting scientist, he has lead research projects, taught university courses and delivered speeches in almost 30 countries of Europe, Asia and the Americas. Having published over 130 peer-reviewed full-length papers, his scholarly work has appeared in high-impact journals, such as the Lancet, the Journal of the American Medical Association and top-ranked health economics journals. Currently, he belongs to the editorial boards of 17 distinguished academic journals, including as Specialty Chief Editor for Health Economics at Frontiers in Public Health. In the capacity of an external expert, he has evaluated a variety of reports and grant proposals for WHO, the European Commission and various national science funding agencies. Professor Jakovljevic’s expertise encompasses health-care financing, expenditure analysis and forecasts, the global burden of disease, evaluation of health system performance, medical care spending and provision in emerging markets, and population ageing.
Professor Jakovljevic was appointed to serve on behalf of the EACHR in 2018.
