SWAP in Republic of Moldova

In 2010 WHO/Europe and the Delegation of the EC in Republic of Moldova expect to sign an agreement under which WHO/Europe will provide technical assistance to the Government as part of the EC Sector Policy Support Programme Health, which provides budgetary support to the country. Apart from focal health areas such as noncommunicable diseases, population based interventions, mother, child and reproductive health, there is a strong focus on governance in the health sector.

WHO/Europe will take the lead in supporting the Ministry of Health to establish a sector-wide process, under which mechanisms will be established to strengthen the link between the generation of evidence, its use in monitoring and evaluation, and the development of new interventions in support of the Health Systems Development Strategy. Currently, the plan is to establish a Health Policy Analysis Unit building on existing institutional capacity, to provide a focus for this work under which the various stakeholders can harmonize their work. The agreement with the EC would be for a three-year period.
