Laboratory Strengthening in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is the latest Member State to join the Better-Labs-for-Better Health (BLBH) initiative, which aims to strengthen laboratory services by focusing on in-country capacity building.
The Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan formally committed to participation in the BLBH initiative in February 2016.
To date, BLBH-related activities in Turkmenistan include:
- two workshops conducted in 2016 on the development of a national laboratory policy;
- senior laboratory experts participated in training in laboratory quality and the use of the WHO Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool in 2015; and
- one laboratory selected for mentoring support for the implementation of quality management systems towards ISO 15189 accreditation.
