Evidence brief for policy. Antibiotic prescribing in long-term care facilities for the elderly (2018)
The Ministry of Health of Slovenia commissioned this evidence brief for policy, to be published under the aegis of the WHO European Evidence-informed Policy Network, to develop evidence-informed options for the country to consider in tackling the problem of prescribing broad-spectrum antibiotics to elderly people in long-term care facilities.

European report on preventing elder maltreatment
Elder maltreatment is pervasive throughout the WHO European Region: at least 4 million elderly people are estimated to experience maltreatment in any one year and 2500 of them will die each year. Most countries in the Region have an ageing population, putting increasing numbers of people at risk.

Policies and priority interventions for healthy ageing
Healthy ageing is high on the European and global policy agendas. The year 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. In the European Union, 2012 has been designated as the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. Around 7 April, when WHO celebrates World Health Day 2012, campaigns throughout Europe will focus on ageing and health, raising awareness of how individuals and governments can contribute

Palliative care for older people: better practices
Populations around the world are ageing and more people are living with the effects of serious chronic illness towards the end of life. This publication provides examples of better palliative care practices, from or relevant to the WHO European Region, that range from a whole health system perspective down to individual examples of better education or support in the community and elsewhere. While some examples remain to be fully evaluated, they will nevertheless help policy-makers, decision-makers, planners and multidisciplinary professionals to plan and support the most appropriate and effective services for the care and quality of life of older people.
