Sexuality education

UNFPA / EECARO

Young people (aged 10–24 years) face many changes during this time in their lives – physiological, social and mental. Among other changes, they start developing different relationships, sexuality and sexual behaviour. Sexuality education can provide young people with the knowledge, skills and tools to better adapt to these changes and make safe choices for themselves while having fulfilling and satisfying relationships.

Sexuality education can cover a variety of topics that can support young people, such as avoiding negative health consequences, enabling communication about sexuality and sexual health, understanding healthy and unhealthy relationships, the value of themselves and their bodies, and respecting the bodily integrity of others as well as different sexual orientations or gender identities.
