Flu News Europe, other influenza surveillance bulletins and seasonal summaries
Surveillance data submitted by the 53 Member States of the European Region are presented in Flu News Europe, the joint ECDC-WHO/Europe influenza update, which provides weekly updates during the influenza season on the spread of influenza, the prevalence and characteristics of circulating viruses (type, subtype and lineage, resistance to antiviral drugs) and their severity.
The Influenza surveillance is based on nationally organized networks of primary care physicians. Depending on the country, physicians report the weekly number of patients seen with influenza-like illness (ILI) or acute respiratory infection (ARI), or both, to the national focal point for influenza surveillance.
WHO/Europe also provides an overview of influenza activity per year in annual season summaries.
