Surveillance meetings

WHO

Each year, WHO/Europe organizes meetings for national influenza surveillance focal points (epidemiologists, clinicians and virologists), often in collaboration with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The meetings provide a forum for Member States participating in regional influenza surveillance to discuss developments and identify gaps in influenza surveillance as well as discuss influenza vaccination, from the country, regional and global perspectives. International partners and institutions are invited to provide input on a range of issues.

The 2013 meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, was attended by more than 150 people and included a review of preparedness and response to 2 recently emerged viruses: avian influenza A(H7N9) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
