Celebration of World Health Day: 7 April 2011

Around the world, WHO is celebrating World Health Day on 7 April 2011. This year’s topic is dedicated to the antibiotic resistance. Under the slogan “Combat antibiotic resistance – No action today, no cure tomorrow”, WHO is raising awareness about an increasing problem worldwide: bacteria that cause common and life-threatening infections are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics – the medicines used to treat them. This happens due to the widespread use and misuse of antibiotics in both humans and animals.
