Fifth International training course on malaria surveillance, monitoring and evaluation

1–21 October 2012, Moscow, Russian Federation

The course was organized by WHO/headquarters and WHO/Europe in collaboration with the Martsinovsky Institute of Medical Parasitology and Tropical Medicine of the Moscow Medical State University, Russian Federation. The objectives were:

  • to equip the staff of national health information systems, malaria surveillance officers and managers of national malaria control programmes with technical skills in dealing with surveillance systems in programmes working at different levels (for example, at the control, pre-elimination or elimination phases);
  • to emphasize the different methods of malaria surveillance, including the use of a geographic information system (GIS), global positioning system (GPS) and geographical  reconnaissance (GR) and mapping in malaria stratification; and
  • to maintain and improve collaboration among participating countries and among malaria experts and individual participants.

The participants comprised 15 specialists nominated by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
