Second meeting of project steering committee

26–28 November 2012, Dushanbe, Tajikistan

The objectives of the second meeting of the steering committee meeting of the project to demonstrate and scale up sustainable alternatives to DDT to control vector-borne diseases in South Caucasus and central Asia were:

  • to describe the work done in the project since the November 2011 meeting of the steering committee;
  • to describe the work done to coordinate efforts with other related projects of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), WHO, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis (GFATM), national governments and others to avoid duplication of effort, ensure that information is available to everyone and that existing funds are spent in a coordinated and complementary way;
  • to receive reports about work done and developments in the last 12 months in countries;
  • to discuss national and regional disposal strategies, and define common issues and best strategies to resolve them;
  • to discuss issues to be brought up at the conference of the parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions in May 2013, in Geneva, Switzerland;
  • to review the project’s current outcomes, reports and results against the project document;
  • to present and review the regional communication strategy;
  • to discuss and agree the work plans for 2013 (activities, timetable, financial allocations, milestones, deliverables, etc.); and
  • to receive country information on co-financing planned to be provided in 2013 as part of the country commitment.
