Tobacco Questions for Surveys

The Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) Guide provides a standard set of questions on tobacco use, and key tobacco control measures. These measures have been defined by the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). These measures supplement the MPOWER package, introduced to assist country-level implementation of effective measures to reduce the demand for tobacco, contained in the WHO FCTC.

The questions in this guide are taken from the core questionnaire of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS), and can be used as a stand-alone module or included in other surveys in any combination.

This Guide was prepared by partners of the Global Tobacco Surveillance System (GTSS) - the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
