Project ideas are now being accepted for Round Fifteen of the Grants Program.

The deadline for submission of project ideas is 12:00, US Eastern Standard Time (GMT -5 hours) on Friday, 7 February 2014.

A Global Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use in low- and middle-income countries was launched in December 2006 and is a competitively awarded grants program, funded by Michael R. Bloomberg. The Grants Program is managed by the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

  • tax and price measures, including anti-smuggling measures;
  • direct and indirect advertising bans and effective enforcement of bans, including promotion and sponsorship;
  • establishment of smoke-free workplaces and public places, and effective enforcement of smoke-free policies;
  • implementation of graphic warning labels on tobacco products;
  • other evidence-based regulatory/legislative initiatives.

The Grants Program can also support, where improving tobacco policy is their central goal:

  • development of strategic alliances and coalitions;
  • monitoring Industry behaviour and practices;
  • strategic litigation.
