Implementation of chemical risk assessment
Chemical risk assessment is increasingly applied and used as a basis for advising governments on the development of policies to prevent the negative impact of chemicals on health, and on planning and evaluating risk-reduction measures. Strengthening capacity at the national and subregional levels in a coherent, coordinated and resource-efficient way is crucial to enable translation of relevant knowledge gathered by WHO and the European Union into policy and action.
At the countries’ request, training on risk assessment was organized at a subregional level for experts from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (2015), Kazakhstan (2016) and Armenia (2016). The training modules included information on available methods for assessing chemical risks and the feasibility of implementing them nationally. Gaps and needs related to building capacity at the national and subregional levels were discussed in order to plan future and follow-up activities.
