International lead poisoning prevention week in the WHO European Region

A number of countries across the Region, including Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Hungary, Serbia and others, took part in the annual WHO international lead poisoning prevention week. A wide range of topics were discussed, including prohibition of lead in paints, replacement of lead pipelines for drinking-water supplies, children’s exposure to lead from toys, contaminated sites and occupational exposure to lead.

To support countries’ campaigns to prevent lead poisoning WHO provides relevant materials, supports monitoring, participates in conferences and workshops and offers advice on policy development.
