WHO/Europe provides countries with expertise and support on health impact assessment (HIA) through bilateral agreements. Activities include capacity building, development and implementation of HIA, equity-focused HIA and HIA of health care waste and industrial contaminated sites. Countries involved in this work include Belarus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The workshop convened in Lisbon, at the National Health Institute of Doctor Ricardo Jorge on November 13-15, 2017.

Report of two workshops in Italy on methods and tools for the health impact assessment of contaminated sites
This study was requested by the Italian national authority charged with the management of waste crisis in Campania. A pilot phase described the health status of the population living in the area most affected by the waste crisis, and a second phase analysed the correlation of mortality and congenital malformations with waste and socioeconomic risk factors
This international project aims to assess the risks and benefits for health and well-being associated with alternative urban policies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Chinese and European cities.
