European Environment and Health Committee 1994-2010

The EEHC has overseen coordination and follow-up of the outcomes of the environment and health process in the European Region from 1994 to 2010. The process involved environment and health ministerial conferences, which take place every five years since 1989.

The EEHC worked to promote and ensure reporting on the implementation of the commitments made at the conferences, and led the preparations for the Third, Fourth and Fifth Ministerial Conferences on Environment and Health. It worked to support countries in their efforts to reduce environmental hazards affecting human health.

This unique coalition brought together representatives from: 

  • health ministries
  • environment ministries
  • intergovernmental organizations and
  • nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

Non-member European countries and international organizations also attended EEHC meetings by special invitation.
