Health equity

The overarching goal of Phase V (2009–2013) of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network is health and health equity in all local policies.

The Healthy Cities movement is committed to tackling inequality in health and improving equity in health. Mayors of cities belonging to the WHO European Network expressed their commitment in statements in 2000 (Mayors’ Statement) and in 2008 (Zagreb Declaration).

Equity in health between groups of people was one of the fundamental values of the Health21 policy for Europe and a key policy objective for local-level health policy and city health planning.
