This is the second document in the European Sustainable Development and Health Series produced by the WHO Healthy Cities project within the European Sustainable Cities & Towns Campaign. It describes how health and sustainable development are closely related. City health plans form an important model for local Agenda 21 plans, using local health profiles and promoting community participation to achieve change at the municipal level. Examples of practice are drawn from Belfast, Bologna, Glasgow and Liverpool. The text includes 47 references and further sources of information.
