Tajikistan celebrates World Water Day

World Water Day is celebrated around the world on 22 March to raise awareness of the importance of water in many aspects of daily life. The WHO Country Office in Tajikistan joined Oxfam and the Department of Education of the Rudaki District of Tajikistan to organize a series of information and education activities in line with this year’s theme "Water and Energy".
The campaign from 14 March to 2 April 2014 included open lectures for schoolchildren in grades 1–4 at 10 schools in the Rudaki District. WHO and Oxfam representatives provided leaflets, brochures, booklets and publications on safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
WHO and Oxfam also awarded prizes to the winners of a drawing contest for children on 9 April 2014 at the School Gymnasium No 74A. The ceremony was followed by a theatre performance presented by teachers and prize winners.
