Testimonials

To make improvements in prison systems and to contribute to the achievement of better health and well-being for people in prison, it is important to listen to the voices of people who are, or have been, inside prisons. This includes justice-involved individuals who have experienced imprisonment, as well as frontline prison staff and primary health-care providers.

In the testimonials below we hear from Daniel Rowan, who experienced incarceration and now works for the New Mexico Peer Education Project. We also hear from Ruth Gray, a dental surgeon in prisons in Ireland, who now also works as a quality improvement fellow leading a multidisciplinary team.

In providing a platform for these voices, we hope to identify what works well and what needs improvement, and advance overall understanding of how prisons can be an entry point to improving the health of a vulnerable population group.
