Legal basis (mandates) and mission

HAPI is a Community Interest Company which was set up with support of the Department of Health for England to address the social determinants of health through international partnerships and networks.

Topics of interest in the prison setting

HAPI is interested in working with partners on a broad range of issues:

  • Mental health
  • Sexual health
  • Tobacco and drug use
  • Health promotion

Strategic operations

Building international partnerships and networks of professionals and organizations from across countries to address the social determinants of health and health equity.

Role in prisons

Support to mental health services in prisons in the UK overseas territories (UKOT) and particularly in western Caribbean including: 

  • Staff training
  • Prisoner assessment
  • Policy development
  • Forming links between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, European Union and UKOT countries and agencies to share best practice and provide support

Target groups

People who are in prison as a result of mental health issues and those who develop mental health issues in prison.
