Success of the first Florence International Training (FIT) Course 2012
The new policy for health in Europe: Improving health for all and reducing health inequities
The first international course in a series of training events linked to the activities of the WHO Regions for Health Network to support the implementation of Health 2020 was held on 11-16 November in Florence, Italy.
The 2012 edition of the Florence International Training ('FIT') course, organized by the Region of Tuscany (Italy) in collaboration with the WHO European Office for Investment for Health and Development in Venice, brought together young public health professionals working at middle and top managerial levels in the Member States of the WHO European region.
This intensive six-day capacity building exercise supported the three main aims of the new European policy for health and well-being - Health 2020:
- Improving health for all
- Reducing health inequities, and
- Strengthening governance for health.
The programme consisted of 5 modules:
- Social determinants of health and health inequities
- Prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
- The lifecycle approach: from early life to healthy ageing
- Health and migration
- Health systems planning
During the training participants obtained and exchanged knowledge about best practices, examples of what works, and practical know how applicable to their professional activities. Young health professionals had the opportunity to refine their skills through structured discussions about addressing the social and economic determinants of health, strengthening multisectorial policies and approaches to health, and increasing governance capacity to tackle these challenges.
