Bulgaria
WHO/Europe started its work in disaster preparedness and response in Bulgaria in 2005, following a request of the Ministry of Health to conduct a rapid health assessment of the population’s needs after severe flooding. In recent years, WHO/Europe focused on providing technical support to further develop a comprehensive multihazard preparedness strategy for the Bulgarian health system. WHO is an active member of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Bulgaria.
Recently WHO/Europe reviewed the national health system’s crisis preparedness programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders. This covered capacity building on both policy and operational levels.
