Main hazards and health threats in Tajikistan

Tajikistan is prone to a variety of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, debris flows, avalanches, landslides and mudslides, river flooding, drought and epidemics.

Every year Tajikistan experiences hundreds of natural disasters of varying extent. During the first three months of 2007 alone, Tajik authorities reported 24 emergency situations, including 9 tremors, 9 mudslides, 3 floods, 2 avalanches and 1 landslide leaving 4 dead and causing damage worth US$ 8.4 million.
