Mandatory annual reporting by States Parties

According to the IHR (2005), “States Parties and the Director-General shall report to the Health Assembly on the implementation of these Regulations as decided by the Health Assembly”. Such reports shall describe the status of core capacities, as defined in Annex 1 of the Regulations, on an annual basis. Since 2010, the Secretariat has proposed a self-assessment tool, focusing on core capacities, for use by States Parties in fulfilling the annual reporting obligation to the World Health Assembly.

States Parties will:

  • a. report annually to the World Health Assembly on the status of implementation of the IHR (2005); and
  • b. ensure that gaps identified through the obligatory annual reporting are addressed in the national action plans for health emergency preparedness.

The Regional Office will assist States Parties in building capacity for translating assessment results into action and facilitate cross-country sharing of experiences and good practices.
