WHO/Europe headquarters closed after renewed flooding
As of Monday, 15 August 2011, WHO/Europe’s headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark are closed until further notice, after parts of the office were flooded following rain on the previous evening. All staff in Copenhagen were asked to work from home for at least two days.
The power supply is disrupted as a result of the flooding, but telephone and e-mail services continue to operate. Preparations for the sixty-first session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe are on track and continue without disruption.
The emergency team is working around the clock to ensure that all operations will resume as soon as possible. Experts are assessing the safety of the buildings. Staff are requested to check the intranet regularly for further updates.
WHO/Europe’s premises were also flooded after heavy rainfall at the beginning of July.
