Third PIPERSKA workshop on The managed introduction of new medicines

11–13 May 2015, Warsaw, Poland

The third PIPERSKA workshop will be held in Warsaw, Poland, on 11–13 May 2015 co-organized with the Agency for Health Technology Assessment (HTA), Poland and WHO/Europe.  This course is intended for health care professionals involved with decision-making for funding new drugs and/or managing their introduction in Europe.

Topics to be covered include:

  • principles of clinical pharmacology and the appropriate use of medicines
  • HTA and the managed entry of new medicines
  • horizon scanning activities, forecasting and critical drug evaluation activities
  • regulatory pathways especially for biotherapeutic products including biosimilars;  off-label use of medicines
  •  biosimilars, procurement strategy; purchasing systems and impact of tenders  
  • critical evaluation of new medicines; use of databases to monitor effectiveness and expenditure on new medicines in clinical care; budgeting of new medicines
  • dealing with uncertainty in health economic submissions and evaluations
  • risk sharing arrangements (from a payer perspective) including coverage with evidence schemes
  • influencing prescribing behaviour 
  • prescribing and outcome monitoring including the development of quality indicators
  • local formulary development 
  • developing an essential medicines/ priority list of oncology medicines

This highly interactive event will provide a forum for active discussion on key issues over 3 days.
