World Tuberculosis Day 2020

World Tuberculosis Day 2020

24 March 2020

The WHO European Region will mark World Tuberculosis Day 2020 with a focus on the essential role of nurses in ending this preventable and treatable disease that still affects some 275 000 people each year in the Region. The day will be used to raise awareness and inspire action to finally end tuberculosis (TB).

Nurses are on the frontline of the fight against TB as they help patients get through long and difficult courses of treatment. They also play an essential role as communicators and health promoters, helping to cut through stigma and raise awareness of how to prevent TB.

The latest surveillance report on TB in the European Region, which is issued jointly by WHO/Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), will be released in the preceding week.

World TB Day is observed on 24 March each year around the world. The overall goal of the day is to raise awareness about the global burden of TB and to highlight the status of TB prevention and control efforts.
