The world faces a broad range of emergencies resulting from various hazards with different scales, complexity and international consequences, such as natural disasters, conflict, disease outbreaks, food contamination, chemical spills or radionuclear accidents. These emergencies can have extensive humanitarian, economic, social and environmental impacts, with potential long-term consequences, sometimes persisting for years and undermining decades of social and economic development and hardearned health gains.
