250th anniversary of the I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy

The WHO Regional Office for Europe was invited to attend the ceremony to mark the 250th anniversary of the Moscow Medical Academy. Dr Nata Menabde, Deputy Regional Director conveyed congratulations on behalf of WHO/EURO.
The Moscow Medical Academy is the leading medical university in the Russian Federation, and is a major teaching, scientific and clinical centre. The Academy influences the development of health resources in the Russian Federation and far beyond, in other countries of the WHO European Region, as well as other regions of the world.
In 2005, the cooperation between WHO and the Academy moved to a higher level. The Moscow Medical Academy successfully completed a probationary period and was designated WHO Collaborating Centre for quality improvement in the education of health professionals. The Academy contributes to the implementation of the European strategic partnership between WHO and the World Federation for Medical Education, whose aim is to improve the education of health professionals. The WHO Regional Office for Europe highly appreciates the collaboration with the Academy, its special role in collaboration with Russian-speaking countries and its important contribution to implementation of plans for strategic partnership in the area of health workforce.
