WHO/Europe has helped to establish and works through many regional and global health networks. They play an important role in coordinating various actors and building expert knowledge on certain health issues.
WHO/Europe’s involvement in these networks benefits both. WHO/Europe’s technical expertise and relationships with stakeholders help to achieve networks’ goals, and the networks support the achievement of public health objectives in the WHO European Region.
HEPA Europe is a network which works for better health and wellbeing in the WHO European Region through more physical activity for all people. Its mission is to provide a forum for the advancement of health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA) research, policy and practice across the WHO European region.
Recognizing that public health, health care and health systems policy-makers need access to timely, independent and reliable health information for decision-making, WHO/Europe started the Health Evidence Network in 2003. It acts as a platform, providing evidence in multiple formats to help decision-making.
For 3 decades the Healthy Cities movement has been a pioneering driver of change, creating heathier urban settings that support the health and well-being of the people that use them. The WHO European Healthy Cities Network brings together cities and national networks to engage local governments in political commitment, institutional change, capacity-building, partnership-based planning and innovation.
Since 1993, the WHO European Regions for Health Network (RHN) has helped regions to accelerate the delivery of improved population health. Working with WHO, Regions for Health Network members aim to put Health 2020 into action in their own area.
WHO established the small countries initiative so that countries in the WHO European Region with a population of less than 1 million people can share their knowledge on implementing Health 2020.
SEEHN is a political and institutional forum established in 2001 for the purpose of promoting peace, reconciliation and health in south-eastern Europe. WHO/Europe acted as secretariat alongside the Council of Europe from 2001 to 2009, and lends technical support to SEEHN’s various health projects.
